A Proud Moment for the DALRT Family

December 2025, just a couple days before Christmas, one of the DALRT family households experienced a house fire, a moment no family ever hopes to face.  It was a frightening situation, but in the middle of it all, we witnessed incredible bravery from one of our own, Gregory (8).

Because of the fire safety lessons he learned at school from Neshannock Volunteer fire department, Greg knew exactly what to do. He quickly and calmly alerted his parents and helped make sure his siblings got out of the house safely. In a moment where panic could have taken over, he remembered what he had been taught and acted with courage and clarity.

Last week, Greg was honored with the Lancer Pride and Promise award recognizing his bravery and quick thinking, and he was even featured on the front page of our local newspaper. Watching him receive that recognition was a moment the entire Dalrt family is incredibly proud of.

We also want to take a moment to thank the people who helped make this possible.

To the teachers and staff at his school: thank you for making fire safety education a priority. The lessons you teach truly matter, and in this case, they made a life-saving difference.

And to our local fire department: thank you for taking the time to educate and connect with the children in our community. Your commitment to teaching safety and preparedness helped equip a young student with the knowledge he needed in a real emergency.

Because of that education, he knew what to do — and the Dalrt family is forever grateful.

Moments like this remind us how important it is to teach our children about safety and preparedness. You never know when that knowledge might make all the difference.

Today we celebrate a brave young boy and thank the community helpers who helped prepare him to act when it mattered most.
